On this International Podcast Day, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites with you. I’ve broken them down into categories you might find helpful.

Just for fun and to feel good–

A bit deeper with faith mixed in–

  • That Sounds Fun: Annie F. Downs tackles topics such as emotional and mental health, dealing with what life is really like vs. what we dream it will be, college football, Hallmark Christmas Movies, the saving grace of Jesus…all from a uniquely truthful, open and non-judgmental lens. And laughs abound…it’s not called That Sounds Fun for nothing. https://www.anniefdowns.com/podcasts/

  • The Bible Binge: Knox McCoy and Jamie B. Golden are joined by their friend and colleague, Erin Moon for a fun look at the Bible. Stories come to life in a new and refreshing way as they dig into the cultural context and play around with casting modern day actors into the roles of the biblical characters. https://thebiblebinge.com/

  • Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday: These conversations always leave me thinking, reflecting, convicted and hopeful about faith and the world in which we live. From Pema Chodron to Brené Brown and the list goes on. https://www.oprah.com/app/super-soul-sunday.html

  • In the Light with Dr. Anita Phillips: Dr. Phillips is a no-nonsense and compassionate psychologist focused on the identification of trauma, healing around racial inequity, the role of faith and the necessity of relationship. She is the real deal and I can’t recommend this podcast enough. https://www.anitaphillips.com/in-the-light-podcast

Authentic leadership and just learning to be you–

  • Unlocking Us: Brené Brown, right y’all? She has given the world language to look at ourselves more honestly, understand the world around ourselves more holistically and live into our authentic selves more confidently. This podcast is more conversational in nature…yet no less chalk-full of learning and wisdom than Dare to Lead. https://brenebrown.com/podcast/introducing-unlocking-us/

  • Dare to Lead: See Unlocking Us… Brené feels like the teacher, mentor, and friend you always felt like you wanted. Dare to Lead digs deep into what powerful servant leadership can and should look like. She shows us how to be courageously vulnerable and vulnerably courageous. Enjoy and grow in wisdom! https://brenebrown.com/dtl-podcast/

  • The Carey Nieuwhof Leadership Podcast: Carey is loaded with grace, focus, patience and practical insight. His refreshing style of learning as he leads is encouraging. For those of you who are learning to limp as a servant leader…I believe you will enjoy Carey’s conversations. https://careynieuwhof.com/mypodcast/

 True life and true crime–

  • Tom Brown’s Body: From Texas Monthly, this story of the still unsolved murder of a young man in Canadian, TX is riveting…you will binge-listen to the stories from friends, family members and town leaders as they recount their experiences with Tom Brown. https://www.texasmonthly.com/interactive/tom-browns-body/

  • The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill: While this is focused on the hubris of a pastor and ultimate demise of a mega-Christian church, it is a lesson for everyone in the need for character development, humility and accountability for those us seeking to be and to become wholehearted leaders. https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/podcasts/rise-and-fall-of-mars-hill/

  • The Shrink Next Door: Listen y’all…this one is WEIRD!! But, just go with it, enjoy and be glad your therapist or counselor has healthy boundaries and isn’t a predator. https://wondery.com/shows/shrink-next-door/
