Going Through the Motions

Written by Kendall Bergman

I have a client in her early thirties. She is a young professional focused on her career and was longing to excel in her profession. Even so, she was disillusioned and exhausted when I met her. She expressed feeling off-center and out of sync...and told me she felt like she was just going through the motions.

Over our time working together, she discovered that a large part of the dissonance in her life originated from not living into meaning and purpose in her work. By utilizing the Motivation, Meaning and Finding Purpose tool, she came alive to the possibilities and opportunities available to her as she became more aware of her motivation and intention.

We worked together to identify ways in which she can more regularly, practically and effectively integrate experiences into her daily routines that are directly aligned with her core values. Some of these include morning prayer and meditation, journaling, regular exercise, and breathing. This has shifted her perspective and has revolutionized how she sees herself and interacts with others.

She has gained insight and picked up tools allowing her to recalibrate moving forward as her internal systems fall out of alignment with her external experience.
