Recent Reads

Here is a hodgepodge of books I’ve recently read. What are you reading?

I’ve been chatting recently with my young nieces who read all the time. And I honestly mean ALL the time. They are now 16 and 14 and have really good taste in books. They recently turned me onto a couple of YA authors, Karen McManus and Jennifer Lynn Barnes. McManus wrote One of Us is Lying and One of Us is Next. Get ready for murder, mayhem and teen angst.

Barnes wrote The Inheritance Games and a sequel called The Hawthorne Legacy. No murder, but there are twists and turns on every page. These are fun, easy and fast reads. Enjoy and connect with a young adult in your life over a pumpkin spice latte and intrigue!

On a more serious note, I highly recommend Emotional Agility by Dr. Susan David. Dr. David shares her personal struggles early in her life around understanding her emotions and letting herself experience those emotions. David indicates that our emotions are signals aimed at helping us navigate our lives most fully.

And rounding out this random list, I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Curt Thompson’s most recent book, The Soul of Desire: Discovering the Neuroscience of Longing, Beauty, and Community. Don’t let the long title with big words turn you off. Dr. Thompson’s work around the issues of shame, the lies we believe and the resulting joy we miss out on will shake you to your core, encourage you to embrace truth and invite you to sustaining hope. FYI, Dr. Thompson has the credentials to back up his assertions.

I would love to know what you are reading. Drop me a line at kendall@thediscoverywell.com to let me know! And as always, you can schedule acomplimentary discovery session to get you started on a path toward greater clarity.
